CHARACTERISTICS

• 3M™ offers two qualitative test sets of lace FT-10 (sweet) and FT-30 (bitter). The FT-10 uses a sodium saccharin test solution, which produces a sweet-tasting aerosol; and FT-30 uses denatonium benzoate, which produces a very bitter taste.
• Choosing between the sweet and bitter test set is a personal matter, although it is important to know that a small percentage of the population is unable to detect saccharin, in which case the bitter test should be used.

• It is used to test whether the user can detect the fit test solution. There are two versions available, since a small percentage of the population cannot detect sodium saccharin, in which case the bitter solution should be used (or vice versa).

• 3M™ recommends that users undergo a facial fit test before using a mask and that the test be repeated periodically as part of the occupational respiratory protection program.
