BENEFITS
3MTM Scotch-WeldTM Structural Adhesive Film AF 163-2 provides excellent performance with easy to use workshop handling properties. These adhesive films are available in a variety of weights and carriers to meet a variety of needs without imposing excessive material costs. With high fracture toughness and peel resistance, AF 163-2 provides a reliable long-term bond suitable for composite materials, solid panel metals and honeycomb sandwich manufacturing. We also offer a non-compatible version, which can be used for networking. It also supports multiple substrates and prints. In addition, AF 163-2 exhibits excellent moisture performance before bonding in composite substrates.
APPLICATIONS
Our easy-to-use, heat-cured film is designed to meet numerous customer specifications in aerospace manufacturing. AF 163-2 provides high fracture toughness and peel resistance across a spectrum of environmental conditions and is easy to work with. Once cured, it provides a high binding strength of -67 °F to 250 °F (-55 °C to 121 °C) for use in multiple designs across multiple environments.
TECHNICAL DATA
What is structural adhesive film?
The fewer rivets you have on your plane, the better. Structural adhesive films allow the designer to be more innovative with their parts and reduce the total number of rivets needed in their structure. This modified thermosetting epoxy in film form can be used to bond a wide variety of substrates, including metal, honeycomb and composites. Structural adhesive films come in a variety of weights and thicknesses, which minimizes weight and maintains structural integrity.
The films are available in compatible versions, which are usually used for monolithic bonding or honeycomb sandwich. They are also available in unsupported form for honeycomb cross-linking. These films can be cured from temperatures as low as 180 °F to 350 °F. Because these films dirty less and do not require mixing, they offer efficiencies in the design process. They're easier to use than typical paste adhesives.
